I Read the following passage. Answer the questions by choosing A, B, C or D.
Text 1
American eating is funny: they eat almost everything with a fork, and it appears that holding a knife in one.s right hand longer than a few seconds is considered to be against good table manners. The system is that if it is absolutely necessary to use a knife, people take the fork in their left hand, and cut off a piece of meat or whatever it is in the normal manner. Then they put the knife down, transfer the fork to their right hand, and only then do they transport the food to their mouth. This is clearly ludicrous, but it is considered good manners. There are several results of this system. First, if it is not absolutely necessary to use a knife, Americans don.t use one, be-cause obviously this greatly complicates things, and you will therefore see them trying to cut things like potatoes, fish and even bacon with a fork. Second, towards the end of a course, since only one implement is being used, food has to be chased around the plate with the fork-and for the last mouthful the thumb has to be used to keep the food in place, although one is not supposed to do this. Third, tables are generally laid with one knife and two forks, the outside fork being for the salad. There is no need for foreign visitors to follow the American system and try to eat the salad with only a fork, but if you do use your knife, remember to save it for the meat course. Even desserts (except ice cream) are eaten with a fork if at all possible, and the spoon you see by your dessert is meant to be for coffee (but if you use it for your dessert no one will say anything).
According to the author, the good manners are
A
holding the knife in one. s right hand for a long time
B

In some ways the employment interview is like a persuasive speech because the applicant (interviewee) seeks to persuade the employer(interviewer) to employ him or her. Several suggestions might prove helpful to the applicant as preparation is made for the actual interview.
A job applicant has the responsibility for ascertaining certain types of information prior to the interview. First, the applicant should know what kind of job he wants and how that job relates to his career objective. It is important that the applicant be able to state his reasons for wishing to
Work for a particular company, Second, the applicant should seek as much information as possible concerning the company. Relevant information for the applicant to locale includes such items as the location of the home and regional offices, the financial status of the company, plans for expansion, and company philosophy. Information about most major corporations is available in reference books and periodicals.
After gathering information concerning the company, the applicant is ready for the interview. The interviewer.s first impression comes from the interviewee.s appearance. For most interviews, appropriate dress for men is a conservative dark colored suit with a long-sleeve white or light blue shirt and conservative tie. For women a conservative, tailored suit or dress is appropriate. Both men and women should have neat, conservative-length hair.
Although hairstyle and dress are matters of personal taste, many personnel directors form initial impressions from these characteristics. For example, one recent college graduate, who felt himself qualified, was interviewed for a public relations job. However, the personnel manager considered this young man.s long hair, sloppy dress, and overly casual manner unsuited for this particular position.

Text 2
In the traditional marriage, the man worked at a job to earn money for the family. Most men worked in an office, a factory, or some other place away from the home. Since the man earned the money, he paid the bills. The money was used for food, clothes, a house, and other family needs. The man made most of the decisions. He was the boss.
In the traditional marriage, the woman seldom worked away from the house. She stayed at home to care for the children and her husband; she cooked the meals, cleaned the house, washed the clothes, and did other household work. Her job at home was very important.
In recent years, many couples continue to have a traditional relationship of this kind. The man has a job and earns the money for the family. The woman stays at home and cares for the children and the house. Many Americans are happy with this kind of marriage. But some other Americans have a different impression of marriage and family responsibilities.
There are two important differences in male and female roles now. One is that both men and women have many more choices. They may choose to marry or to stay single. They may choose to work or stay at home. Both men and women may choose roles that are comfortable for them.
A second difference in male and female roles is that within marriage many decisions and responsibilities are shared. The husband and wife may choose to have children, or they may not. If they have children, the man may take care of them some of the time, all of the time, or not at all. The woman may want to stay at home and take care of the children. Or she may want to go to work. Men and women now decide these things together in a marriage. Many married people now share these decisions and the responsibilities of their families.
